MediaPillars.us is a hand-built static site with no CMS, no page builder and almost no scripts. Here's what we learned building it and who it makes sense for.
Our main site, mediapillars.com, runs on WordPress with a page builder, a caching plugin and a stack of tools. It's a good site. It's also the kind of site that needs care: updates, security, and periodic speed work.
This site is the opposite. Every page is a plain HTML file. The fonts are served from our own server. There is one stylesheet and one small script. No database is queried when you load a page, which is why it appears almost instantly, even on a weak cell connection in the Adirondacks.
What we gained
Load times measured in tenths of a second. Nothing to hack. Hosting that costs almost nothing. Full control over the structured data and the AI-crawler files. A clean place to test ideas before we bring them to client sites.
What we gave up
Editing in a browser. A blog anyone can post to. Plugins for forms, galleries and stores. For a business that changes its site weekly and has a team doing it, WordPress still wins — which is why we still build and manage WordPress sites for clients.
Who should consider it
